Information

This article is for Switchvox Mobile Softphone users to transition to Sangoma Talk. The article offers information about what is different in Sangoma Talk than Switchvox Mobile. For additional information on how to use Sangoma Talk please see this article, How do I Use Sangoma Talk for Switchvox?

Please let us know via email  (talk@sangoma.com) if there are features you'd like to see in Sangoma Talk.

Switchvox Status
Not yet available for Talk users. The ability to see and change your Switchvox Status from your mobile phone is important for collaborating with your coworkers and controlling your personal call rules.

This important feature is on our roadmap and will be part of an upcoming version to serve the needs of our mobile users.

Related: Talk offers the DND feature, so that you can quiet your phone. You can set a schedule for DND to automatically toggle DND on and off (Settings > Preferences > Do Not Disturb). DND only affects your Talk Mobile app, it does not affect your call rules.

Visual Voicemail
Not yet available for Talk users. In Talk , you will see a notification for unread voicemail, and you can tap the voicemail icon (found on the Keypad tab) to dial the Voicemail Access.

This important feature is on our roadmap and will be part of an upcoming version to serve the needs of our mobile users.

Switchvox Favorites
Not yet available for Talk users. In Talk , you can easily create a Quickdial list from your Talk Contacts, and indicate that you want to see that person's phone-state (whether they're on a call or not). You can reorder the list (using the Edit mode), and you can view it as a list or a grid (pull down within the list, to switch modes). Quickdial in Talk shows the contact's phone-state but doesn't show the contact's Switchvox Status.

Contacts
The Business Contacts tab includes your Switchvox contacts as provided by your Switchvox administrator, and your own External Contacts. However, the additional phone numbers (if any) are not shown for your Switchvox contacts. The Address Book includes the contacts from your mobile phone, so that you can call a 'native' contact via Switchvox.

Call Log
In Talk , the History tab shows you the calls you have made and received within the Talk Mobile app. If you are using another phone with Switchvox, the History in Talk does not show calls that were made from or answered by that other phone. In other words, the History is just the activity within the Talk app. In the History tab, you can filter the list to see just the Missed calls. To listen to a recording you made while on a call in the app, tap the i on the call with the recording. You can also filter your history by items with a recording, to make it easier to find those calls. These recordings are only available from the Talk app.

Call Handling
Calling in Talk offers the same tools as Switchvox Mobile Softphone, including Hold/Resume, Record (these recordings are found in the History tab, within that call item), Transfer (blind), Attended (assisted) Transfer, and Add Call (3-way conference).

In Talk , the call-handling tools include a Keypad item, so that you can type into the call. In Switchvox Mobile, you tapped the Keypad tab if you needed to type into the call. This was confusing for some people, so now the keypad is offered within the calling tools.)

Call Setup
The Switchvox Mobile client occasionally suffered from an unresolved audio issue when setting up calls, where you could tap hold/unhold to establish audio. Sangoma Talk has never demonstrated this problem.

Reliably Forwarded Audio
Sangoma Talk uses Sangoma’s TURN infrastructure as a backstop to ensure that audio is always transmitted bidirectionally, even where there is no direct path between the client and the server. The Switchvox Mobile client does not make use of this infrastructure and can suffer from one-way or no-audio in some network scenarios.

Call Security
Sangoma Talk can use TLS for SIP signaling encryption and SDES SRTP for media encryption, so that any calls exchanged between your remote phones and your Switchvox are kept private to the end user and your Switchvox. The older Switchvox Mobile client did not use TLS nor SRTP.

Call Roaming
Sangoma Talk is much better at dealing with the handoff between Mobile and WiFi networks. With Sangoma Talk , in most cases your handoff will be smooth and your call will continue. Switchvox Mobile, in similar transitions would result in a dropped call.

Android Installation and Use
Sangoma Talk does not require that you set it up as a dialer in Calling Accounts Settings. Switchvox Mobile did not function properly unless those settings were correctly in place. Also, Sangoma Talk presents incoming calls as more clearly as being either a Switchvox-generated call or a native phone app call.
